Great Wall of Los Angeles: Architects of Social Justice

[SPARC — the not for profit Social & Public Art Resource Center, which rents its nerve center in the old Venice (Ca) jail for $1 per year — is the organization from which muralist Judy Baca coordinated the painting of the Great Wall starting in 1976.  In a cost cutting measure, the city of Los Angeles has now determined that it will no longer rent to not for profits at their subsidized rate.  This could force many smaller organizations to close.  For those of us who treasure the work done by artists like the crew under Baca’s supervision, the implications are horrendous.  Visit the Great Wall here. ]
