[Well, it seems not.  At least, as capitalism sees it, the obsolete worker is neither useful to educate nor important to keep healthy; and, with foreclosures looming of increasing numbers of us, we are not important to keep in housing until the next upturn in the economy takes place, when we used be able to expect to be recalled to work.  Many economists are predicting the “jobless recovery” will keep the official unemployment rate around its current level for some time.  Some are suggesting the trajectory will only go up.]
